Webinar for An Executive Group Delivered March 4, 2011

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Ever wonder why hiring executives goes poorly in your company? Sometimes the problem may be staring at you in the mirror.

In my presentation today (March 4, 2011), we focused on how hiring executives “right” starts with the frame of mind of the president/CEO. A good attitude about hiring is just as viral in your company as a poor one (for example, “How much time will those hiring interviews take?).

Today’s key points focused on:

* the importance of making sound hiring part of the company culture – the leadership development of every high level influencer should include focus on best hiring practices

* leadership assessment of top candidates need to be carried out by skilled testing consultants

* a well orchestrated process will yield the best results

* don’t let your hiring process get hijacked by “cognitive dissonance” – a way the mind takes opposing viewpoints and seeks to sometimes inaccurately reconcile them (for example, “Even though we know this hire isn’t a good fit for the company, we need to fill the slot, the person is available and where will we find somebody else – so let’s hire them!”)

What are the things you could do to make the hiring processes in your company work better?

Get Dr. Jim – The Blog

Welcome To My Blog!

For years, I’ve been wondering what would happen if all the good people I meet were to pool their ideas. What kind of ideas could we come up with, as high-flying as culture, and as micro as any variety of “best practices”?

Well, the time for wondering is over. This is the maiden voyage of “Get Dr. Jim – The Blog” (kind of like Get Dr. Jim—The Movie…O.K., humor isn’t my strongest suit).

Anyway, in the months to come, I’m going to begin posting my thoughts about organizational culture building. And, I’m asking that you post your reactions, ideas, manifestos, rants—whatever. I’d like to think of this blog as “our” blog.

Who are “we”? “We are people who have a vision of a world of work that excites and enriches the individual, while also bettering the overall organization.” I know this is possible, because I have clients who are doing this right now.

I also want to make an early apology. I have no idea whether my first few posts will hit the mark with you. Give me some ideas as to what you’d like me to write about (hey, I take direction well).

So, here we go. Looking forward to creating a new “community of culture thinkers, culture changers”.
