This is a fascinating book on social media. Yes, there’s a ton being written on social media. But “Crush It” takes a different approach which I really liked.
First some background which will help you to understand why I’m reviewing a book on social media (because some of you are thinking, “Jim, you’re a corporate psychologist – where does social media fit into your interests?” Good question.
If you’re reading this, you know that I recently launched this blog. My interest in “Crush It” is that it’s kind of a motivational book on getting into blogging. I felt that something that put some “gas in my tank” to get me writing, and keep me writing, would be helpful. It worked.
Vaynerchuk loves blogging. His profession is retail wine sales, but he’s known for his video blog (some people call that a “vlog” for the uninitiated). Anyway, his Nike-esque “just do it” approach made a lot of sense to me. He also makes good points for how you need to connect your blog with other aspects of your own social media universe (i.e., your website, LinkedIn, etc.).
The book is a quick read (I read it in one evening) and it held my attention. If you are involved in social media in your company, or are a small business owner and by definition, your own marketing person, the book will get your fingers typing and get you going!Email This Post
